Lesson 258 Let Me Remember That My Goal is God

PART II.  SECTION 4:  WHAT IS SIN?

Lesson 258 Let Me Remember My Goal is God

  1. All that is needful is to train our minds to overlook all little senseless aims and to remember that our goal is God.  His memory is hidden in our minds obscured but by our pointless little goals which offer nothing, and do not exist.  Shall we continue to allow God’s grace to shine in unawareness, while the toys and trinkets of the world are sought instead?  God is our only goal, our only Love.  We have no aim but to remember Him.
  2. Our goal is but to follow in the way that leads to You.  We have no goal but this.  What could we want but to remember You?  What could we seek but our Identity?[1]

This 2007 comedy starring two of my favorite actors, inspired me to come up with my own bucket list. For instance, there is Hadrian’s Wall to hike.  A revisit to Cozumel to explore the Maya ruins and taking Lover to Wales is on it, as well as finishing Grover Good and the Stone Chateau and upgrading our wardrobes.  Developing the website, becoming certified to teach A Course in Miracles, learning aquaponics and hydroponics (my heart thrills at the thought of purple eggplants, red hot peppers, green cabbage and cucumbers growing without dirt and weather worries), and making the best pickles ever are also ongoing goals.  Personal goals, professional goals, financial goals – I’ve always enjoyed having goals and giving myself something to work toward, to keep me motivated, and to achieve and accomplish.

However, I could really want no other thing but to remember my Creator and Lord, and in remembering Him, I come to know who and what I really am and what I truly desire.  And then I have forever.  Unlimited by the waning years of the fleshly body; there are no panicked thoughts of wearing out or growing too old to walk from coast to coast on the ancient Roman ruins.  The world’s offerings, limited by time, money, and effort; not to mention aging, energy, and demands from family and friends, come only with great sacrifice and sorrow.   Choosing to go after the goals on a bucket list blinds us to the daily wonders, tenderness, and joys that surround us always.

Dear Heavenly Father, I don’t want the sights and sounds of this world to keep me unaware of Your grace.  Let return and communion with You be my only goal, my only Love.  I want no other aim but to remember You.  I want to stay upon the path where You lead, and which leads to You.   In Jesus name.  Amen.

Coming up on sixty, my love for God, home and hearth, my husband and family fueled my decision to devote the rest of my life only to pursuits which brought love, joy, peace, and purpose. I am a writer, seeker, student, and teacher with experience professional and otherwise from waitressing to teaching the English language in China, Taiwan, and Singapore. I hold a BA in Psychology from Bloomsburg University, which took nearly 30 years to attain while I squeezed courses in between raising my children, journaling, relationships, work, and an assortment of escapades, some of which I would rather forget! An ongoing passion for reading, writing, adventure, food, and fun, eventually led me to the love of my life, James, whom I met in 1996 and married in 1997. Our life together has been an exciting journey of work and travel, spiritual awakening, and domestic bliss ever since. Although we have experienced the tragic loss of family members and friends through death and estrangement, we have managed to turn our special relationship into a holy one by the grace of God and an acute and growing awareness of “there must be a better way!” In 2006, I published my first novel, Luella’s Calling, and am currently working on my second, Grover Good and the Stone Chateau. From 2013 through 2018, I worked as a Prevention Education Specialist for Transitions, a local domestic violence sexual abuse victim’s service agency. My work there, fueled by a lifelong enthusiasm for teaching, led me to obtain an MS in Education from Scranton University. In 2018, I resigned to accompany James on his work travels while focusing on my calling to study and teach A Course in Miracles. To that end, I dedicate the rest of my days to writing, sharing, and teaching the message of salvation found within the Course pages. Thank you for your interest in this blog.
