PART II.  SECTION 6: WHAT IS THE CHRIST?

Lesson 272 How Can Illusions Satisfy God’s Son?

  1. Father, the truth belongs to me. My home is set in Heaven by Your Will and mine. Can dreams content me? Can illusions bring me happiness? What but Your memory can satisfy Your Son? I will accept no less than You have given me. I am surrounded by Your Love, forever still, forever gentle and forever safe. God’s Son must be as You created him.
  2. Today we pass illusions by. And if we hear temptation call to us to stay and linger in a dream, we turn aside and ask ourselves if we, the Sons of God, could be content with dreams when Heaven can be chosen just as easily as hell, and love will happily replace all fear.[1]

A Netflix series that I’ve been watching recently no longer holds the least bit of interest – the beating up of flesh, the frightening scenes of creation turned upon itself, no memory of God, a child’s hellish world. At first I was disappointed and thought, well now what?

Then today’s lesson brought the message home:  I am a Son of God and could never content myself for long with the horrors that this world makes up to enthrall and capture our imaginations and turn us against love.  I choose love, gentleness, and safety when I choose God’s Kingdom.  I choose to fill my mind with the memory of God, which is true, everlasting satisfaction and entertainment.

We are not taught that God’s Kingdom is entertaining, but the Course tells us to play the happy game of salvation, enjoying the wit and the humor of God which is never insulting but the only real laugh because it is creative and constructive.   Once we experience the wit of God, the witlessness of the world becomes so apparent that we can give only the least bit of polite attention to it possible.

Dear Heavenly Father, dreams can no longer content me!  Illusions cannot bring me happiness!  Pretense and lying tongues no longer steal my joy! Only Your memory can satisfy me, Your Son, and I will be happy with no less than You have given me.  Surrounded by Your Love forever, forever gentle and forever safe – I am God Son as You created me to be.  Today I let all illusions pass me by.  If temptation calls to us to stay and linger here in the world, we turn aside and ask ourselves, if the Sons of God could ever be content with the fiction of the world, when Heaven can be ours just as easily as hell and love instead of fear. In Jesus holy Name. Amen.
